In 2020 I posted a list of 7 weird bucket list coasters that I wanted to ride. Since then I've ridden one of them (Tyrolean Tub Twist, yay!) but there are many more weird coasters that I'd like to ride out there. Let's see what else is on my "strange to-do list".
Magic Mountain
Travelling

No, this doesn't have anything to-do with Six Flags and it probably rides horribly (I mean it looks gross!) but there's something weirdly compelling about a unique-looking, weird, travelling coaster of substantial height. I had no idea this thing existed until recently and what a layout for a travelling ride! Complete with multiple track styles, arrow-like angular turns and a lift hill with a bizarre change of angle, this coaster is quite the specimen. If I ever get to ride this ride I will likely regret it but it's made the list because I just can't not be curious about it.
Tranan
Skara Sommarland

Tranan, the world's only S&S Free Fly could be described as the father of the axis coaster. This coaster suspends riders out to the side who then freely swing around the layout. The seats look really open and the swinging looks like it would feel really trippy, especially when the riders loop over each other. As an Arrow suspended coaster fan anything that looks like it may deliver some of that classic swinging sensation gets my attention. It might not be a great ride but I think the experience would be an interesting one to have nonetheless!
Ice Mountain Bobsled
Enchanted Forest

This one is nuts from start to finish and should be on everyone's list! It's sort of like a mountain coaster that's enclosed and runs through a fake mountain that's kind of like a homemade matterhorn bobsleds. The indoor section looks super creepy and there's some unexpected airtime and snappy corners that look to deliver a slight sense of peril along with the fun. I know the park were fundraising to stay open a while back, hopefully the park and this coaster can stick around for years to come so we can all ride or reride this ridiculous creation!
Ultra Twister
Brazillian Park Washuzan/Nagashima Spa Land/Greenland/Rusutsu Resort

This one really needs no explanation. Togo ultra twisters are just out-of-this-world bizarre-looking and I'd like a slice of that. Will I be a little scared going up the vertical lift and zooming backwards through the multiple heartline inversions, probably yes, but will it be worth the ride, likely also yes! Japan is home to all 4 of the remaining coasters of this type, there are two variations on the layout but both are on my bucket list.
Switchback
ZDT's Amusement Park

Any wooden coaster fan will likely want to ride the world's only wooden shuttle loop coaster. I mean, it's a woodie that goes backwards! It's small but does a lot in the space it has and as well as having a cool gimmick, also looks like it would be a fun little ride!
Tower of Terror
Gold Reef City

This is another one that will need no introduction for some people. Tower of Terror has been through some modifications since it opened but this was originally the world's most intense coaster pulling a monsterous 6.5Gs at the bottom of the drop. The current version of the ride features an elevator lift up an authentic gold mine tower (that was relocated from a nearby gold mine) before it drops riders down a vertical drop into a 49ft deep underground tunnel. This was the first real vertical drop coaster in the world, as Oblivion is slightly off vertical. Tower of Terror has a mysterious past plagued with issues, downtime and modifications and there are still questions over it's manufacturer due to conflicting information. It might not be the most intense coaster anymore but this ride is definitely still intimidating and intriguing.
Selva Encantada
Travelling

Another weird travelling coaster that I have recently discovered, Selva Encantada (which means Enchanted Jungle in English) is a travelling coaster with a few tricks up it's sleeve. As well as boasting a wild mouse layout a bit different from the norm it has cute airboat themed cars, fountains, a splashdown, a whole water coaster section and a sort of indoor jungle disco thing! The sign at the front of the car reads "If you want refreshing effects" and seems to refer to a button so it seems like there's an element of interactivity with the ride as well! What a ride!
I entered 2020 with 563 rollercoaster credits and had big plans for this year's trips. I should have been to Germany (again), LA/SoCal and Finland (both for the first times) by now and would have hit 600 easily a few weeks back somewhere between Matterhorn Bobsleds and Taiga. Yeah; meh. Obviously the first priority in a global pandemic is to stay safe but those of us theme park inclined people are going to wonder what 2020 means in terms of our great hobby which lead me to the thought..... Was it still possible for me to reach 600 credits this year? Well....one can try! Consider the challenge accepted! Here is part 1 of my "Road to 600" chronicles! Whilst most UK enthusiasts were booking slots at Alton Towers in mid July, a couple of friends and I looked at a nearer option. Mainland Europe. Yes, indeed it was actually closer to get to France than Alton Towers! The covid levels were lower than the UK at this time an...
Eejanaika, Fuji-Q Highland It's that time of year again! Time for the year in review blog post! Tripwise 2023 has been a mix of new places and familiar places for me. I finally got to Japan and Finland, both of which had been on my bucket list for years (I had Finland originally booked in 2020 but had to cancel it) and revisited some of my favourite places like Oktoberfest, Düsseldorf Rheinkirmes and Wiener Prater. Started the year with 765 Ended the year with 842 Total new coaster credits: 77 it has been a solid year for new coaster credits, with Japan and Finland doing most of the heavy lifting here. As I've visited a lot of the "low hanging fruit", easy-to-get-to-places, particularly in Europe, now, it's harder to get on new coasters without more complicated travel plans and I've also been a bit less focused on numbers and more focused on mainland european fairs the last few years. Sometimes I'd rather just hang out at a fair and take photos than go ch...
